Where our kids go from here

Dear Friend,

Coronavirus has created countless challenges for us all. While the diagnosed cases seem to be decreasing, the road ahead is long and unpredictable. We hope the worst is over but the experts are warning us it could get worse before it gets better.

I am not taking my foot off the pedal. I will continue to build upon the work we’ve done through our Aventura Heroes Foundation. To date, we’ve raised over $40,,000 that has provided food and gift cards to Aventura’s bravest and those most in need.

During this unprecedented time, Aventura needs an experienced leader and family advocate. As a candidate, a philanthropist, a mom, and an attorney, I will fight for what is best for our children. Recently, our campaign released an ad that highlights my credentials and details my platform. I urge you to watch it and see why I am fit to lead on the Aventura Commission.

As a mother of four, I am anxiously awaiting direction from the state and county on how our schools plan to proceed. Our teachers have been heroic, quickly transforming learning from in-person to virtual in-home learning. Our parents deserve tremendous praise for successfully home-schooling our children, while the students have continued their studies in the absence of their traditional social networks. If there is a silver lining, it’s that education through the pandemic has continued, differently, and not without challenges, but no one has left our children behind.

My years of service have prepared me for crises like this one. For the past ten years, I have served on the Board of the American Friends of Beit Issie Shapiro, which is the largest organization in Israel helping educate and treat children with disabilities.  I have served on the Aventura Charter School of Excellence Advisory Committee for the past five years, and the Board of Directors of the Jewish Community School of Hollywood.  I was recently appointed to the first Don Soffer Aventura High School Foundation.  And, as I have always done, I am ready to help parents, teachers, administrators, and students work together and rebuild our school communities.

In the next few months, the questions that we all have to answer will be the hardest of our life. As I’ve done for years, I will continue to support our community and lead the fight to ensure the best interests of our teachers, parents, and children are heard and acted upon.

Thank you to all our heroes. I am here for you and together we will beat this crisis.

Rachel
