Getting Outside

Friend–

Our state has been all but shut down for almost four months, and I know that many of you are feeling restless — maybe even stir crazy.

Particularly for those of us staying at home with kids, it’s more important than ever that we stay active either in our homes or outside. But, it’s also important that we stay active in a safe and socially distanced way. That means wearing a mask, washing your hands, and keeping six feet of distance between yourself and others.

This week, I took my children to the Aventura Founders Park, where I taught my daughter how to ride a bike for the very first time.

While I was teaching her to ride, it struck me how this moment, besides the masks, felt remarkably like a normal milestone for me and my daughter. These milestones with my kids are precious to me, and it gives me hope whenever I get to find that piece of normalcy as we cope with the COVID crisis.

I know that COVID has made life difficult for all of us, and that we have had to make challenging sacrifices for the sake of our health. But I’m writing to tell you that you don’t have to sacrifice time spent doing fun activities by yourself or with your family, as long as you find safe ways to do it.

I encourage you all to visit Lisa Falic-Groisman’s blog, Camp Lisa Travels, where she shares ideas for how families can stay together, stay active, and stay safe this summer.

I hope this will help all of you spend more quality time with your loved ones.

Sincerely,
Rachel
